Jelena Škrbić

My name is Jelena Škrbić and I come from Novi Sad, Serbia. I am a second-year PhD student at Faculty of Technology Novi Sad, University of Novi Sad. And I am a graduated student of Pharmaceutical Engineering at Faculty of Technology Novi Sad. As a researcher, I am employed at the same institution, in the field of colloid chemistry. As a young researcher, I am always ready to acquire new knowledge and experience in chemical engineering, and I consider CEEPUS to be a great help for my professional progress and growth.

During my stay at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, I expanded my knowledge in the field of polyelectrolytes and the layer by layer method of obtaining multilayers. Also, I was introduced to new methods, such as atomic force microscopy and ellipsometry. And I believe that the knowledge and experience gained during this CEEPUS mobility will help me in my further work on my PhD thesis.

In addition, this mobility allowed me to get to know Croatian culture and tradition. During my one-month stay in Croatia, I visited cities like Rijeka and Crikvenica and that was the first time I was on the Croatian coast. I must admit that I was delighted. Also, for the first time I ate a traditional Croatian dish called "štrukle", it is a kind of dough with cheese, similar to pie and can be sweet or salty. I prefer the salty version.

I really liked Zagreb, especially the architecture of the city center, as well as large well-organized parks such as Maksimir Park and Zrinjevac Park. Also, the city transport is very well organized, which is very important when you are in that city for the first time.

This is a very nice experience, both professionally and privately. I acquired new knowledge and skills, met new colleagues and great experts in the field of chemistry. I felt very welcome during my entire stay in Zagreb, and the hosts were very kind and friendly. Also, I am very impressed with the hospitality and dedication of the hosts.

In every sense, I am satisfied with the organization of my stay in Zagreb and I am grateful to CEEPUS for this wonderful experience.

The CEEPUS programme (Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies) supports the mobility of undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and doctoral students in thematic networks.
